Ultra – Fri Sept 12, 2008 Event Review

This was supposed to be a party hosted by Lindsay Lohan while her very talented girlfriend, Samantha Ronson DJ’ed.  Samantha showed up and ran a very hyped set for the last hour or so that Ultra remained open while Lindsay we discovered, stayed in a corner and texted on her celly.  Only those in the very front row who craned their necks got to peep her.

Ultra charged everyone $25.00 – $30.00 at the door regardless of whose guestlist you were on, and even if you arrived there at 9:00pm.

Lesson learned: Beware of the hype!  Here is the video.

TIFF 2008 Style

New Tie-Ups belts have been spotted on some very chic Toronto hipsters during the first day of TIFF.  Made in Italy, they are cut to fit, come in 12 colors, are washable, 100 % recyclable, “resist UV rays, saltwater, bacteria and tortion”.  Did we mention that they are also pretty?  Furthermore they are pretty hard to get your hands on, so if you will be visiting Italy, Greece, Spain, Australia, or Saudi Arabia in the next few weeks, buy some and sell them on eBay.

Word is, you will have to wait till December to buy them in Toronto, and then only at select stores.  Email us for details.

Sundays on the patio of the Drake Hotel

1150 Queen Street West

http://www.thedrakehotel.ca

Sundays on the Patio at the Drake Hotel is awesome!  Great music (old school reggae, and world music mixed in), great ambiance, friendly and good looking crowd, great food, and lovely drinks.  Prompt service may be hit and miss, but take a look around and see how busy the servers are!  This a very social scene, and you will make acquaintances easily.  We have spent many hours whiling away the time here this summer.  Your hard earned $100/person can get you about 4-5 hours of socializing time if you want to eat and drink.  Open year round, the “Sky Yard” patio is located on Drake’s rooftop.  In the spring, summer and fall, it features palm trees, various seating options including outdoor couches (almost verging on being beds), communal teak tables, and a theater sized screening wall and outdoor murals.

A very breezy island style theme in the summer.  And soon to be hot bed of stylish scenesters during the 2008 TIFF.

Scale of 0-10 (10 being the best)
Music – 9 People – 9 Ambiance – 9 Love factor – 9

TIFF 2007 Opening Night Party Hopping

Friday, September 07th, 2007

tiff.jpg

The party @ the Liberty Grand was filled with filmmakers, producers and other industry folk. But more celeb-watchers than actual celebs. Who needs a red carpet when you can walk up a flight of stairs and through a kitchen? Yes, we had to use the service entrance in the back.

Next up: The Brant House, for the Lions Gate SAW IV party. We spotted Sean Ashmore drinking in the VIP, but Paris Hilton was rumored to have arrived shortly after we left. We ended up seeing her at at Lobby, Century Room and Ultra Supperclub in her first 48 hours in the city..hahaha. No it probably wasn’t her…maybe it was.
We hopped over to the FQ party at Atelier. Even with the tightest guest list we had encountered all night, the room was packed. Spotted in the crowd: Michael King (the host, of course), Anwar Mukhayesh (current Designer Guy), Dan and Davis Factor (founders of Smashbox cosmetics), Tracy Melchior and every top socialite this city has to offer. Now that was a nice party.
